Responsible for preforming all activities necessary for the processing of Meridian payrolls for US business units using payroll software.
Major Duties & Responsibilities:
• Process and submit bi-weekly payroll, multi-state payroll, garnishments, and taxes.
• Data entry of payroll inputs (i.e. commissions, bonuses, fringe benefits).
• Maintain and update employee payroll information in software (i.e. direct deposits, federal, state and local taxes).
• Maintain time system and electronic timecards.
• Reconcile payroll prior to transmission and validate confirmed reports.
• Provide training to employees on payroll related items as needed.
• Ensure all deductions are funded timely. Prepare and submit deduction files file biweekly to various vendors.
• Issues or reissues replacement checks or direct deposits as needed.
• Review of payroll tax and wage withholding reports for federal, state, and local jurisdictions (prepared by third party).
• Remit all voluntary deductions (401k, ESPP, etc.).
• Manage change request process for data file for file transfer from the payroll system to the benefits system, as needed.
• Ensure that all W-2s are postmarked by January 31st annually.
• Ensure that all W-2s add on amounts are properly processed (auto, legal allowances, stock option income, etc.).
• Provide information for quarterly and annual SOX audits.
• Keep up to date on payroll tax law changes.
• Assist in reconciling payroll to the general ledger and monthly bank statements.
Other duties and projects as assigned:
• Ability to work on a PC including repetitive use of a keyboard and mouse for long periods throughout the course of the work day.
• Ability to walk up and down several flights of stairs throughout the work day in a multi-location facility.
• Must be able to concentrate, analyze and solve complex issues throughout the course of the work day.
• Ability to sit for long periods of time, stoop, reach, bend throughout the course of the work day.
• Must be able to analyze and concentrate routinely throughout the course of the work day.
• Ability to lift, push, pull and manipulate packages and instruments up to 20 pounds.
Minimum Education or Equivalent Experience Required/Preferred:
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting/business administration, payroll certification and/or relevant years of experience.
• Minimum of five years of experience processing payroll.
• Two to five years of experience in general accounting preferred.
Competencies Required or preferred:
• Ability to maintain confidential information.
• Must be able to work hours outside the normal workday to support department needs (evenings, weekends, or holidays).
• Ability to read, understand and follow all company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and guidelines.
• Ability to maintain regular attendance and punctuality requirements.
• Must show initiative and be a self-starter, detail oriented and organized. Must be able to prioritize and balance workloads and meet strict critical deadlines and perform under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
• Computer proficiency at an intermediate level (MS Office).
• Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Two to five years of experience in general accounting preferred.
